The updated Geely EX5 has been detailed in China, headlined by new rear-wheel drive variants with an 800V electrical system joining existing front-wheel drive, 400V variants.
Australian timing has yet to be confirmed for the updated model.
First revealed in a Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing in June 2026, the updated EX5 – or Geely Galaxy E5, as it’s known there – wears a new, sharper front bumper with larger vertical side air intakes.
It has also moved to more traditional door handles, in light of new Chinese-market regulations, while a LiDAR unit sits above the windscreen. The only notable change at the rear is the addition of 'Geely' lettering on the centre of the tailgate.

Most members of the updated lineup use an 800V electrical system that supports DC fast-charging of the 61.52kWh or 70.01kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries at up to 460kW. The AC charging rate remains at 6.6kW.
Electric range under the more lenient CLTC cycle is either 550km or 635km, depending on the battery capacity.
The so-called Gold Brick batteries power a 245kW/320Nm electric motor at the rear of the mid-size SUV, giving it rear-wheel drive and a 0-100km/h time of between 5.8 and 6.2 seconds.
Total boot space with the rear seats folded is 1838L, down from 1877L. However, there’s now a 160L storage compartment under the bonnet.

The range opens with a familiar 530 Global Classic Edition, featuring a 400V electrical system, supporting DC charging of the 60.22kWh LFP battery at up to 120kW. It offers 530km of claimed range on the CLTC cycle.
This entry-level variant has a front-mounted electric motor producing 160kW and 320Nm, good for a 0-100km/h time of 6.9 seconds.
It measures 4615mm long, 1901mm wide and 1670mm tall on a 2750mm wheelbase. The updated variants are 15mm longer and 19mm wider, though unusually they ride a 5mm shorter wheelbase.
The interior is largely unchanged in updated variants, and continues to use a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. However, there's a new three-spoke steering wheel.

Updated variants swap four-link independent rear suspension for a five-link setup, while adaptive dampers are newly available.
The new LiDAR unit helps power the Qianli Haohan H5 suite of active safety and driver assist technology, which includes urban and highway Navigation on Autopilot (NoA) with autonomous lane changes and traffic light detection.
The Geely is unusual in offering the option of both front- and rear-wheel drive variants, something also seen on the BYD Atto 3 Evo in Australia.
While combustion-powered mid-size crossover SUVs – at least those from mass-market brands – are largely front- or all-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive is much more common among electric SUVs .

The EX5 joins not only the top-selling Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7 in featuring rear-wheel drive, but also budget SUVs such as the Leapmotor C10.
To the end of August, Geely has delivered 10,737 EX5s in Australia this year, making it one of the best-selling EVs in the country.
Earlier this year, Geely Australia added a new, larger 68.39kWh battery, replacing the 60.22kWh pack.
It also made a cargo blind and Mode 2 charging cable standard, and added a Jungle Green exterior finish to the colour palette.
