2027 Xpeng L03 mid-size SUV priced from under $42,000 with EV and EREV options

Xpeng has confirmed pricing for its new L03 medium SUV, which will be offered with a range-extender powertrain offering over 1000km of combined range.

Pricing for the new Xpeng L03 has been confirmed to start at $41,900 before on-road costs in Australia, where an extended-range (EREV) version of the mid-size electric SUV offering more than 1000km of claimed combined range will also be available.

Australia is among the first right-hand drive export markets to receive the L03, which introduces the Chinese automaker's Kunpeng EREV powertrain technology alongside its latest XOS 6 intelligent cockpit and NGP driver-assistance technology.

The L03 will be offered in four grades locally, comprising two rear-wheel drive battery-electric variants, an all-wheel drive performance flagship, and a rear-wheel drive EREV.

Pricing starts at $41,900 plus on-road costs for the L03 RWD Standard Range, which uses a battery-electric powertrain comprising a 58.3kWh LFP battery to deliver a WLTP range of 445km.

The RWD Long Range increases the asking price to 46,900 plus ORCs, while the range-topping AWD Performance Ultra is priced at $53,900 plus ORCs. Both of these variants feature a larger 71.2kWh LFP battery to deliver a WLTP range of 520km and 440km respectively.

The Power-X Long Range is also priced from $41,900, making it the same price as the entry-level EV despite using a different powertrain.

The Power-X combines a 37kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in its range-extender powertrain. The petrol engine doesn't directly drive the wheels; instead, the L03 remains driven by its electric motor, while the petrol engine supplies additional electrical energy to the battery.

Xpeng claims more than 200km of WLTP electric range and more than 1000km of combined range, with peak charging power of up to 123kW and a 10-80 per cent charging time of approximately 20 minutes.

The L03 measures 4650mm long, 1890-1930mm wide (depending on configuration), and 1600mm tall, on a 2850mm wheelbase.

Its coupe-SUV body was developed under former Ferrari exterior design chief JuanMa López, and features frameless doors, frameless exterior mirrors, integrated semi-concealed door handles, and a claimed aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.228Cd.

Xpeng says the aerodynamic design can extend driving range by up to 47.5km compared with earlier design iterations.

Inside, the L03 features a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen, W-HUD, 256-colour ambient lighting, intelligent climate control, and lounge-style front seats with heating, ventilation, four-way power lumbar adjustment, and 14-point massage function.

The rear seats have five-level electric adjustment and adjustable backrests, while the 40/20/40-split folding rear seatbacks accommodate larger items in the boot.

Storage capacity includes a 539-litre rear cargo area, a 102L front trunk for RWD EV variants, and a 10L pull-out rear drawer.

Xpeng say the L03 also features 37 storage spaces, eight flush magnetic attachment points, and five 1/4-inch threaded mounting points, plus roof racks, and an optional tow bar. Towing capacity is rated at up to 1500kg.

Technology is a major focus, with all variants getting triple Xpeng Turing AI chips providing up to 2250 TOPS of computing power.

The L03 is the first Xpeng model to feature the company's international XOS 6 cockpit and its integration of Google Maps through Google's Auto SDK.

Xpeng says the system will allow Google Maps technology and map data to be incorporated directly into the vehicle's own navigation system rather than requiring smartphone mirroring.

The L03 also introduces Xpeng's latest NGP technology, based on its VLA 2.0 physical-world foundation model. Xpeng plans to progressively roll out the system in Australia and New Zealand from 2027.

The automaker says the system is designed to navigate complex urban environments and adapt to local road rules and driving behaviours.

The L03 is also equipped with a driver monitoring system, child presence detection, intelligent parking tools, and 180km/h blowout stability control for the dual-motor AWD model.

The Xpeng L03 is yet to receive Australian Design Rule (ADR) compliance, however, the first examples are expected to arrive in local dealerships in November.
