Chery Australia has recalled the Tiggo 4 Hybrid small SUV due to an issue with the software controlling its emissions system.

“Due to a software issue, the Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system valve may not operate as intended. As a result, the vehicle may not comply with the applicable emissions standards,” the recall notice said.

“There is no safety hazard associated with this recall and the defect will not affect the performance of the vehicle. Vehicles that experience this issue may not comply with Australian Design Rule 79/04 – Emissions Control for Light Vehicles.”

The recall only applies to the Hybrid, with the entry-level petrol-powered Tiggo 4 models not impacted.

    • A total of 1936 vehicles are affected, produced between 2025 and 2026.
    • The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list is attached here.
    • The original recall notice is attached here.

“Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Chery in writing asking them to schedule an appointment with their local dealership to have the vehicle inspected and repair work carried out, free of charge,” the recall notice said.

Petrol versions of the Tiggo 4 were recalled in February 2025 for a different software issue, which impacted the audible alarm for the autonomous emergency braking system.

The entry-level petrol versions of the Tiggo 4 are the cheapest SUVs on sale in Australia, although the Mahindra XUV 3XO is available from the same price, albeit with a smaller petrol engine.

The Tiggo 4 is the best-selling model in the Small SUV under $45,000 sales segment, leading the Hyundai Kona and GWM Haval Jolion.
