Mazda BT-50 recalled due to fire risk

Mazda Australia has recalled 10,957 examples of the BT-50, due to a fault which could cause the ute to catch fire.

“The fuel delivery hose may have been installed incorrectly and come into contact with the engine oil level gauge bracket resulting in premature wear,” the carmaker said in its recall notice. 

“Fuel may leak from a damaged hose and, in the presence of an external ignition source, result in a vehicle fire.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders and/or damage to property.”

• A total of 10,957 vehicles built between 2020 and 2021 are affected

An identical fault resulted in the recall of 36,966 examples of the Isuzu D-Max, the BT-50’s twin, earlier this month.

If you own an affected BT-50, Mazda will contact you in writing to schedule an appointment to have the fuel hose inspected and replaced, free of charge.
