Mercedes-AMG G63 Two-Finish is an exclusive black edition with a twist

The Mercedes-AMG G63 Two-Finish Edition is exactly as its name suggests.

It's distinguished from the regular G63 by its two-tone paintwork. Unlike Mercedes-Maybach models on which a dark paint finish is contrasted with a lighter one, Mercedes-Benz has gone with two types of black paint: high-gloss solid black paint for the greenhouse surrounds, bonnet and spare wheel cover, contrasted with a Manufaktur Night Black Magno matte finish for the lower body and roof.

Mercedes-Benz says the precise separation is achieved through extensive hand-finishing in Graz, Austria, with just one vehicle passing through the paint shop each day – masking the dividing edge between the two paint finishes alone takes several hours.

The 22-inch forged wheels are reminiscent of classic AMG monoblock wheels and are finished in, you guessed it, black, while and the dark exterior treatment is completed with the AMG Night Package II, which includes a dark chrome grille.

Just five examples will come to Australia, priced at a cool $425,327 before on-road costs, a steep $53,000 increase over the regular G63.

You'll be reminded you're one of the lucky owners thanks to a bespoke passenger grab handle reading '1 of 5' in silver (no, not black).

There's a two-tone treatment inside too, with Manufaktur Titanium Grey Pearl and Black upholstery. The cabin also features the 'Superior Line Interior', with a two-tone Nappa leather-finished instrument panel, plus carbon-fibre trim. The AMG Performance steering wheel is finished in both carbon-fibre and Microcut microfibre.

Other standard equipment includes an 18-speaker 760W Burmester 3D sound system, Multibeam LED headlights, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with augmented-reality satellite navigation, plus a full suite of active safety and driver-assist technology including semi-autonomous parking assist, a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, and Active Steering Assist.

As with the standard G63, power is provided by a bi-turbo 4.0-litre petrol V8 producing 430kW of power and 850Nm of torque mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission, rocketing this big, boxy off-road SUV from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.4 seconds.

Adaptive dampers are standard, while the four-wheel drive system also incorporates three differential locks.
