Skoda Peaq EV drives 936km on one charge to set seven-seat range record

The new Skoda Peaq has driven 936km on a single charge, setting what Skoda claims is a range record for a seven-seat electric SUV.

A production-spec Peaq 90 travelled from the Czech Republic to the Netherlands without recharging, covering the distance from Skoda’s headquarters in Mladá Boleslav to the seaside resort of Zandvoort.

The record-setting run was conducted under the supervision of certification authority TÜV SÜD, with the Peaq averaging just 9.2kWh/100km across the 936km journey.

That figure is particularly notable given the Peaq’s size. The model is the Czech brand's new flagship electric SUV, measuring almost 4.9 metres long and boasting an official WLTP range of 647km. The record run therefore exceeded its homologated range by 289km, or almost 45 per cent.

The vehicle used was a standard-production Peaq 90 with a 91kWh battery, of which 86kWh is usable, along with a 210kW rear-mounted electric motor and rear-wheel drive.

It was fitted with 19-inch wheels and standard low-rolling-resistance tyres, while its standard bodywork has a claimed aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.249Cd.

However, the record wasn't achieved under normal driving conditions. Two Skoda employees – Peaq model series head Marek Jež and high-voltage battery strategist Jakub Krs – left Mladá Boleslav at midday on August 25 and drove through Germany before reaching Zandvoort the following afternoon.

The pair deliberately selected a route and adopted a driving style designed to maximise efficiency, using secondary roads and relatively low speeds. They also stopped to rest, eat and swap drivers along the way.

“The aim was to demonstrate what the technology can achieve when pushed to its limits,” said Mr Krs.

Mr Jež acknowledged the conditions weren't representative of normal customer use.

“In everyday use, customers are unlikely to drive the car this way,” he said.

Despite the unusual circumstances, the run demonstrates how driving conditions can affect an EV's real-world range, with the Peaq consuming just 9.2kWh/100km over the course of the journey.

For reference, the most efficient EV currently on sale in Australia is the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD, with an 82kWh battery offering 750km of WLTP range and energy consumption of 12.5kWh/100km. The mid-size electric sedan is priced at $61,900 before on-road costs.

Skoda also credits the SUV's aerodynamic efficiency, helping reduce energy consumption at higher speeds.

The Peaq 90 uses a 91kWh battery and produces 210kW with rear-wheel drive, while the Peaq 90x adds all-wheel drive and a second motor for a combined 220kW.

The model range also includes the Peaq 60, which uses a 63kWh battery and 150kW rear-mounted motor.

Skoda says it has already received more than 10,000 orders in Europe for the Peaq, which is now making its way to its first customers.

The all-new model has been confirmed to arrive in Australia in 2027, when it will join other Skoda EVs on sale here including the Enyaq and Elroq mid-size SUVs.
