A driver has been fined €121,000 (A$195,796) for speeding in Aaland in Finland, where these penalties are calculated based on the offender’s daily disposable income – typically their daily salary halved.

According to the Nya Aaland newspaper, Anders Wiklöf also had his driver’s licence suspended for 10 days.

“I really regret the matter,” he told the newspaper.

“But I have heard that they are going to save one and a half billion on healthcare in Finland, so I hope that the money can fill a gap there. Ideally, I would like them earmarked for that purpose.”

It’s unclear what he was driving at the time of the offence.

Mr Wiklöf was reportedly caught driving 82km/h in a 50km/h zone, and it’s not the first time he’s been slapped with a fine.

In 2013, he was reportedly fined €95,000, while in 2018 he received a fine of €63,680.

Mr Wiklöf runs Wiklöf Holding, a holding company that includes businesses in the logistics, real estate and tourism sectors, as well as helicopter services.
