2027 Mercedes-Benz GLB price and specs: New-generation seven-seat SUV gains EQB-replacing EV option

The new Mercedes-Benz GLB is now available in local showrooms, offering a choice of two mild-hybrid petrol and two electric powertrains.

The latter two replace the EQB, which was the electric version of the previous GLB. They use an 85kWh (usable) nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, with the rear-wheel drive GLB250+ electric offering 570km of WLTP range and the all-wheel drive GLB350 electric offering 554km.

Pricing for the second-generation GLB opens at $65,400 before on-road costs for the front-wheel drive mild-hybrid GLB200, and tops out at $86,200 plus on-roads for the dual-motor all-wheel drive GLB350 4Matic electric.

That means the cost of entry into a new GLB has actually decreased, with the outgoing model range having opened at $68,300 plus on-roads. Likewise, the cheapest GLB electric costs $74,990 plus on-roads, undercutting the outgoing EQB by more than $15,000.

Mild-hybrid variants feature a chromed grille with the Mercedes-Benz star pattern and LED framing, while electric variants feature 94 individually animated LED stars.

All GLBs come standard with a panoramic glass roof, hands-free power tailgate, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, and heated and power-adjustable front seats with memory.

While the GLB has a screen-heavy interior, with the optional MBUX Superscreen adding a third display for the passenger measuring 14 inches, Mercedes-Benz is touting the return of physical controls on the steering wheel. These include a rocker switch for the adaptive cruise control and speed limiter, plus a roller for adjusting audio volume.

The GLB runs the fourth generation of MBUX infotainment, powered by MB.OS, and features a virtual assistant that answers queries using generative artificial intelligence powered by ChatGPT-4o, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini. Navigation is powered by Google Maps, with electric variants offering intelligent journey planning which uses real-time vehicle and route information.

Although still positioned below the popular GLC, the new GLB has grown substantially in size as it measures 4732mm long (+48mm) and 1861mm wide (+27mm), while its wheelbase has stretched to 2889mm (+60mm). That said, it stands slightly lower than its predecessor at 1687mm (-14mm).

Nevertheless, headroom is up by 10mm in the third row, 64mm in the second row, and 35mm in the first row.

Drivetrains and Efficiency

The second-generation GLB shares its new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) with the third-generation CLA range.

GLB electric variants use an 85kWh (usable) nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery and an 800V electrical architecture, supporting DC fast-charging at up to 320kW and AC charging at up to 22kW, while petrol variants use a 48V mild-hybrid system and an electric motor integrated into the transmission.

All-wheel drive variants feature an additional Terrain mode.

Servicing and Warranty

Mercedes-Benz has yet to release service pricing for the new GLB.

It backs its vehicles with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, with EV batteries covered for eight years or 160,000km.

The new-generation Mercedes-Benz GLB has yet to be tested by safety authorities ANCAP and Euro NCAP.
